“We must check this trend. I urge all the officials to mobilize diplomatic channels to request India to cooperate with us on this matter,” said Shrestha, who chaired a review meeting of a task-force formed under the high-level committee to regulate the foreign employment sector.
Shrestha also directed the officials to initiate the process to open the Nepali embassies and consulate heneral offices in the countries and cities considered crucial in term of foreign employment and economic prospects.
According to a press statement of the Foreign Ministry, Shrestha also directed the officials to effectively implement the provision to verify the foreign employment related documents from Nepali embassies and not leave any stones unturned to take action against those found involved in cheating the workers in the name of foreign employment.
Labor Minister Kumar Belbase also stressed on the need to immediately control the growing trend of Nepali youths to make their way to foreign labor destination through the southern neighbor and urged for collaboration among concerned agencies to put to an end the malpractice.
The government had formed a high level committee led by Shrestha and comprising Labor Minister, secretaries of foreign ministry, home ministry and labor ministry on August 24 to make the foreign employment safer, dignified and regulated by ending the anomalies in the sector.
Similarly, the taskforce was constituted with the leadership of joint secretary at the home ministry Shankar Koirala with the mandate to take immediate action against those found to have been engaged in wrongdoing.
On the occasion, Koirala presented the progress report about the efforts so far by the taskforce to control the anomalies in the foreign employment. Koirala informed the meeting that the taskforce inspected Tribhuvan International Airport 11 times, raided travel agencies to seize 117 copies of fake passport and arrested two people as well as initiated investigation against five employees who were found involved in giving permission to immigrate to Brazil.
He also appraised the progress to systematize the process of sending workers to overseas destinations adopting rules and modern technology in different government agencies.
