KATHMANDU, May 13: As the country has been witnessing a notable increase in remittance earnings, the outflow of remittance has also increased by an impressive rate in the first nine months of the current fiscal year.
The records maintained by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) show that foreign employees working in various organizations inside the country took away Rs 7.42 billion during mid-July 2024 and mid-April 2025. The amount was Rs 5.11 billion in the corresponding period of 2023/24, which shows an increase of 45 percent in remittance outflow.
Country sees outflow of around Rs 13.5 billion in eight months

Foreign individuals who received work permits in Nepal send the aforementioned amount of money to their homeland. Majority of these foreign workers are from India, China, the UK, the USA, South Korea and Japan. Large numbers of foreign workers are associated with construction of infrastructure projects including hydropower companies.
According to the government rule, foreign workers can remit up to 75 percent of the earned money to their home countries, while they have to spend the remaining 25 percent of their income on various utility payments inside Nepal.
The remittance outflow in the review period this year even surpassed the figure of the entire period of FY 2023/24. In the last FY, a total of Rs 6.06 billion was flown out from the country under the heading
According to the NRB, Nepal earned remittance worth Rs 1.191 trillion in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. The growth rate of remittance inflow stood at 10 percent. Last FY, the country recorded remittance earnings of Rs 1.445 trillion.
