Prakash Buda of Khalanga, the district headquarters of Jumla, was very happy to receive motorcycle driving license within a day of filling the application. He was able to take oral and written exam for the license on the same day.
"I still remember when I filled the application for my driving license last October. I had to wait for two weeks to take oral and written exam. But I failed in that one and was very discouraged for sometime," he said. "This time around, my experience was different. I was able to fill application form in a day and appear on both exams on the very day," he said in joy.
Local drivers here had to reach Nepalgunj or Surkhet to fill application and take tests for their driving license before the establishment of DoTM office in Jumla. And the process used to take months.
"We used to face lots of hassles. And it is almost unbelievable that we can get our driving license in just a day," said Laxmi Prashad Devkota, a local entrepreneur.
According to the DoTM, locals from very far places visit the office to get their driving license. And as getting the license could take weeks in Surkhet or Nepalgunj, they had bear additional lodging and food cost there.
To avoid any service seeker having to stay overnight, the office has optimized the license acquisition process to just one day.
At present, people from around the Karnali zone have been reaching Jumla after learning that they can get their license issued in just a day. None other transportation office have been able to distribute license in one day.
The office has managed to issue licenses to 700 motorcyclists. And has announced plan to distribute license for tractors from Sunday. The office also said it would provide license for commuter vehicles in the near future.
