For the new committee, the Mihika Dhakwa-led panel has brought its agenda of effective tourism policy for the development of the industry.
Talking to Republica about her agenda, Dhakwa said her panal will work for effective tourism policy. She wishes to make tourism not only an industry but a priority industry with hard lobbying.
"I will lobby the government to make better plans and policies for the development of the tourism industry," she says, adding that having working in the industry for more than a decade, she feels that there is an urgent need for change in various policies, acts and regulation for the development of these sectors as many acts are not in line with the international trends and practices.
"I promise to diversify tourism products which are currently centered in and around the Kathmandu Valley, Chitwan and Pokhara, and put extra effort for the development of tourism infrastructure in the country," she told Republica.
Despite growing interest from the foreign tourists, Nepal has not been able to create new packages. "For more than three decades, no new destination has been widely promoted and I want to give tourists a new taste," she says, adding that her panel wishes to make tourism destination more competitive and tourism-friendly.
She wishes to concentrate on training and workshop for skills development and enhancement of members, develop new human resources and groom existing as well as new entrepreneurs as per international trends and practices.
Dhakwa also wants to establish an interactive-media center to address the problems and take feedback from members who have never had the opportunity to share their problems and get advice.
