Deuba panel takes comfortable lead in CWC positions

KATHMANDU, March 14: With most of the votes counted by Sunday evening, the panel led by newly-elected Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba had won more seats and maintained a sustained lead in the vote counting for the NC's new Central Working Committee positions.

By the time results for 22 posts were announced, the Deuba panel had won 15 CWC seats, while the one led by Ram Chandra Paudel had only won 5.


Of the 22 seats, one was won by a candidate not affiliated to any of the two panels.

With 2,750 of the total 3148 votes counted till Sunday evening, out of 25 seats under the open category, Deuba panel candidates were leading in 14 seats and Paudel panel in 11 seats.

So far, Shekhar Koirala, Khum Bahadur Khadra, Prakash Man Singh and Pradip Paudel have garnered most votes in the same order.

In order to be eligible to qualify for the CWC seats, candidates must fall among the top 25 vote winners.

While Narayan Khadka and Minendra Rijal, who were at the 24th and 25th positions, run the risk of losing their CWC seats, Padma Narayan Chaudhari and Uday Samser Rana, at 26th and 27th positions, were close to being elected as the party's CWC members.

Similarly, with about 1,400 votes counted, Deuba and Paudel panels were leading in equal seven provinces under province-wise reservation category.

Guru Ghimire and Bhisma Raj Angdambe are leading in Province 1, while Ananda Dhungana and Ramesh Rijal leading in Province 2.

Likewise, Nabindra Raj Joshi and Mohan Bahadur Basnet were ahead in Province 3, Govinda Bhattarai and Surendra Pandey in Province 4 and Dipak Giri and Devendra Raj Kadel are in leading position.

Similarly, from Province 6, Hridaya Ram Thani and Jeevan Bahadur Shahi were taking the lead, while Dilendra Badu and Bir Bahadur Balayar from Province 7 were ahead in the race.

Earlier, four contenders from Deuba Panel won the election under six reserved quotas for women. Dr Dila Sangroula, Pushpa Bhusal, Ambika Basnet, and Ishwori Neupane were in Deuba panel while Kamala Panta and Sarita Prasai in Paudel's camp.

In the five seats reserved for indigenous people, Bahadur Singh Lama and Sita Gurung from Deuba panel, Chinkaji Shrestha and Ratna Serchan from Paudel panel, and Kalyan Gurung, an unaffiliated candidate won the election.

Similarly, Ajay Chaurasiya, Mahendra Yadav and Parwata DC Chaudhari from Deuba panel and Ram Krishna Yadav and Kiran Yadav from Pauel panel got elected from the Madhesi reservation quota.

Most candidates elected under Dalit reservation quota are from Deuba panel. Man Bahadur BK, Min BK, Sujata Pariyar and Laxmi Pariyar from Deuba panel and Jeevan Pariyar from Paudel panel were elected as CWC member under Dalit quota. Earlier Farmullah Mansor was elected under Muslim quota, who is also from the Deuba panel.
