Basnet is the fourth former IGP of the APF accused by the anti-graft body of embezzling funds while transporting various logistics to various APF units across the country.The CIAA has accused Basnet of embezzling Rs 91,581,151. Along with Basnet, CIAA has accused inspectors Bin Kumar Basnet, Manuhira Mahat, Shiva Bahadur Adhikari and sub-inspectors Devendra Kumar Shrestha, Nil Bahadur Shrestha and Lekh Bahadur Khatri of corruption.
The CIAA has claimed that the APF officials were involved in massive financial irregularities under the pretext of transporting various logistics for the APF.
The CIAA, in its statement issued on Monday, said that suspended former IGP Basnet had directed the officials to prepare fake documents related to transport of logistics and other goods of the security force to various places although no such transportation had taken place.
Basnet, according to the anti-corruption body, had instructed the police officers to prepare the fake documents in collusion with some transport companies and cargo companies. Police officials at the store section of the APF worked hand in glove with other officials in preparing the documents, the CIAA has claimed.
Earlier, the CIAA had filed corruption case against the then suspended APF IGP Kosh Raj Onta on February 1 for his alleged involvement in embezzling Rs 67,941,706 from the APF by presenting fake documents and invoices. The CIAA had filed cases against eight other police officers and the proprietors of two transport companies along with Onta.
Likewise, the commission on February 7 had filed graft case against another former chief of APF Shailendra Kumar Shrestha and four others for their involvement in the embezzlement of Rs 8.93 million. On Feb 13, the commission had dragged another former IGP Basudev Oli to the Special Court accusing him of embezzling Rs 11,454,049 during his three years tenure at the APF.
