The Meteorological Forecast Division (MFD) informed that parts of the country would receive rainfall on Tuesday night.
According to meteorologist Shanti Kandel, “The weather changed throughout the country on Tuesday due to the westerly trough and cloudy conditions will persist one more day.”
Though this is the first strong westerly trough entering Nepal this winter, MFD said it is a regular phenomenon. The westerly trough causes disturbances and brings rainfall every year.
MFD recorded 15 and 3.5 degrees Celsius as maximum and minimum temperature respectively for Tuesday in Kathmandu Valley. Likewise, the maximum temperature on Monday was 20 degrees Celsius while the minimum for the day was 2.5 degrees.
The temperature in the Valley had plummeted to zero on December 24, making it the coldest day for this winter.
MFD has predicted high chances of rainfall at night in parts of the central and western hills.
“As the weather has changed throughout the country, there are chances of light to moderate snowfall at some places in the high mountainous region,” said Kandel. “There are high chances of rain at some places of the eastern, central and western hill regions.”
MFD has suggested postponing travel and trekking for one more day as there are high chances of snowfall in the high mountain regions.
