British CDS in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, Jan 3: The Chief of the British Defence Staff (CDS), General Sir David Richards arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday for a week-long visit to see British Gurkha Nepal´s activities, said the British Embassy in a statement on Tuesday.



This is the first visit of General Richards to Nepal since his appointment as the professional head of the British Service. He had visited Nepal twice earlier in his capacity as the Colonel Commandment of the Brigade of Gurkhas. [break]



"He is here to see British Gurkha Nepal´s activities, including recruitment, and to be briefed on the Gurkha Welfare Scheme´s development projects," said the embassy, adding that he will also meet President Dr Ram Baran Yadav and Chief of Army Staff General Chhatraman Singh Gurung.
