Border security beefed ahead of UP polls

KATHMANDU, Feb 11: Security has been tightened along the Nepal-India border considering Saturday’s second round of assembly elections in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.



The India-Nepal border has been turned into a fortress with heavy armed security personnel being deployed in Uttar Pradesh´sMaharajganj District, the Asian News International (ANI) reported. [break]



People crossing the border , whether on foot or traveling in motored vehicles, are being stopped for checking and their luggage being frisked at several police pickets in Sunauli.



Saturday’s polls are the second of seven rounds of voting that began on February 8 and which will involve 19.7 million voters in 59 constituencies during the 10-hour balloting.
