NEPALGUNJ, May 1: Keeping in view of security sensitivity during the upcoming local level election, local administrations have beefed up security in no-man's land of the Nepal-India border in Banke district. The security at the border points has been beefed up considering that illegal arms could be brought in Nepal from no-man's land to affect the polls scheduled for May 13.
The District Police Office, Banke, said security checks have been upped in the border area as illegal activities could be carried out from Indian soil due to open borders during the time of election.
Security beefed up in border areas
Currently, the security officials from both the countries are carrying out joint patrolling and conducting stricter security checks in Jamunaha and Rupaidiha points, Deputy Superintendent of Police of Banke Madhu Sudan Neupane said.
Banke district shares 65 kilometers of open border with India.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway to CCTV cameras in all voting stations in Banke, Chief District Officer of Banke Surya Bahadur Khatri said. "We have been carrying out monitoring of different voting stations as part of preparations for the same," according to CDO Khatri.
The government has made it mandatory to install CCTV cameras in the voting stations. In Banke, 112 voting stations are categorized as highly-sensitive ones from the security point of view while 24 others are defined as sensitive.
