JHAPA, June 10: Authorities in Jhapa district have heightened surveillance at border points following reports of COVID-19 cases in neighbouring India.
A decision was made to strengthen monitoring and testing for COVID-19 at the border areas due to the potential risk of transmission.
The District Health Risk Management Committee, chaired by Chief District Officer Gopal Kumar Adhikari, met on Sunday and decided to deploy additional human resources and better equip the health desks at entry points.

Ramesh Barakoti, Chief of the District Health Office, Jhapa, said that a circular has been issued to all local governments within the district, instructing them to make necessary preparations and implement precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
Hospitals and health institutions have been directed to remain on high alert, arrange quarantine facilities, and conduct public awareness campaigns, he added.
Barakoti also stated that health workers have been instructed to test individuals entering Nepal through the border points, given the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
Meanwhile, the Health Office has urged everyone to take preventive measures, including wearing masks and regularly washing hands with soap, to stay safe from infection.
