Before Ghimire offered the apology, journalists in Tanahun organized a one-hour sit-in at the District Administration Office (DAO).
On Wednesday, Ghimire thrashed the journalists, Dambar Adhikari and Omkar Acharya, who had reached government quarter of Chief of District Public Health Office Dr Sushil Nath Pyakurel for reporting. “Dr Pyakurel had called us to his residence for his comments.
Ghimire blasted us immediately after we reached the doctor´s residence, accusing us of going there to demand money,” Adhikari said. He added that Ghimire attacked the journos even as they were getting out of Dr Pyakurel´s home.
“He continued to use profanities as we tried to slip out of the quarter,” Acharya said.
The duo claimed that the assistant CDO even tried to run his motorcycle over them.
“He followed and nearly hit us with his speeding motorcycle after we left the quarter. He kept uttering profanities and said that he would bring us to shape,” added Acharya who is secretary of the Tanahun chapter of FNJ.
Following the incident, Adhikari had lodged a complaint at the DAO on Wednesday demanding action against the assistant CDO.
On Wednesday, Ghimire had claimed that he had intervened only verbally when the journalists demanded money with the doctor in his presence and alleged that one of the reporters had attacked him instead. He had said that his left cheek got a bruise due to the assault.
Various journalist and other associations slammed the attack on media persons and organized a protest rally in Damauli Wednesday afternoon.
