In Saturday´s final held at Satdobato Tennis Court, Lalitpur, Lissanevitch beat Bibhuti Karki 6-3, 6-1in U-16 girls´ singles after coming out victorious in the U-18 title just a day ago.
On Saturday, Lissanevitch had taken 1-0 lead in the first set but Karki bounced back and took 1-2 lead by the end of the third game. Lissanevitch then came back into the game and took the set. Lissanevitch took the second set in an impressive way. She had taken 4-0 lead and Karki won a game but couldn´t hold on to powerful shots from Lissanevitch.
In the final of U-18 boys´ singles, Milan Rokka defeated Ivanhoe Lissanevitch 7-5, 6-4. In the first set, Rokka had taken an easy 3-1 lead but Lissanevitch bounced back and leveled the score 5-5. Rokka then took the set with double fault from Lissanevitch. In the second set, Lissanevitch was 4-1 ahead but Rokka bounced back and won all of the remaining games. Suman Karki and Sudarshan Sigdel finished third.
Russian Ambassador Sergey V Velichkin gave away prizes to the winners Ivanhoe Lissanevitch (U-16 boys´ singles), Bibhuti Karki (U-14 girls´ singles), Abhay Gauchan (U-14 boys´ singles), Mahika Rana (U-12 girls´ singles), Samrakchyan Bhusan Bajracharya (U-12 boys´ singles), Samyak Bhusan Bajracharya (U-10 boys´ singles), Ira Raut (U-10 girls´ singles).
The winners of all categories, except for U-10 and U-12, received Rs 10,000 while the runners up bagged Rs 5,000. The winners and runners up of U-10 and U-12 receive gift hampers.
Twin wins for Gaurishankar
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Gaurishankar School on Saturday lifted the title of First HVSA 3X3 Basketball Tournament in both girls´ and boys´ categories. In the final of girls´ category, Gaurishankar defeated host HVSA 8-6 with six points from Bipana Shrestha. In boys´ section, Sushant KC´s 18 points guided Gaurishankar to a 21-9 win over Bal Dikchya Sadan. Sushant KC and Sarita Basnet were adjudged the most valuable players of the tournament. In junior boys´ section, Bal Dikchya beat Gaurishankar 24-10 with 14 points from Rajesh Maharjan, who was later declared the most valuable player.
