KATHMANDU, Dec 29: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) Acting President Narendra Shrestha said that the football governing body will hold its general assembly (election) in three to six months. Shrestha was appointed the acting president after long serving football chief, Ganesh Thapa, was handed a 10-year ban by FIFA, the international football governing body, for his alleged involvement in corruption on November 16.
The ANFA has come under heavy criticism since Shrestha was nominated the acting president because he was neither an executive committee member nor a representative at ANFA with voting rights.
Speaking during a football equipment handover program at ANFA Complex by FIFA, Shrestha claimed that ANFA will hold the general assembly in between three to six months to solve all the burning issues of the football governing body.
Similarly, FIFA's Development Officer Shaji Prabhakaran, who attended the program to hand over the equipment, said that Asian Football Confederation (AFC) was also discussing about the governance issues with ANFA.
Meanwhile, Prabhakaran handed over football equipment worth $100,000 to Shrestha. The equipment will be distributed to school children, coaches and referees of the 14 earthquake-affected districts.
Prabhakaran also informed that FIFA has approved $600,000 for artificial turf at Chysal, Lalitpur and another $250,000 for infrastructure development.
