The school teaches classes seven to 10 and students haven't received even half their course books. They lament that only three months remain before the final exams.Student in grade eight Bharat Thapa said the teachers have been saying the course books will arrive soon but he fears he will be forced to appear in the final exams without ever having read the course books.
Apart from the problem with course books, parents and students have been complaining about irregularity in holding classes. Dhan Bahadur Rokaya of grade 10 said that he and his friends walk two hours every day to reach school but don't get to do any studying.
He added that they often return home after sitting in the sun the whole day. "We heard that the government will provide us free course books but we haven't received any yet. How can we sit for the exams in such a situation," he said.
Some of the students complained that negligence on the part of the school was the reason for delay in getting course books and irregularity in classes. It is reported that some of the teachers at the school haven't yet returned from their Dashain holiday.
The local book stores have also run out of the books, according to parents. They added that they have gone from pillar to post to secure the books for their children but their demands were not looked into.
Some local parents accused the school of using students for reconstruction work on the school building instead of teaching them in class.
However, principal of the school Netra Bahadur Shahi clarified that classes at the school are regular. He, however, admitted that they have taken help from the students as the Rs. 2.4 million budgeted for the construction of the school building was not enough.
About the delay in distribution of course books, he clarified that the school hasn't been able to provide the books due to a shortage at the bookstores.
He also said that the school is taking the initiative to provide the books to the students at the earliest.
On the other hand, school inspector Yageswor Khatri informed that there has been delay in distributing books to the students due to the irresponsibility of the suppliers. He said they will investigate the matter further and bring the books at the earliest.
