KATHMANDU, March 31: In a bid to address the administrative vacuum in local governments, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA) has decided to transfer and deploy 63 undersecretaries or equivalent officials across the country.

According to a decision made on Monday, the officials have been sent to local units and District Coordination Committees that have long been without Chief Administrative Officers, the MoFAGA said.

While the government has formally transferred a few officials, it has dispatched most under a temporary "on-duty assignment" model to ensure continuity in governance. The government expects this move to immediately improve service delivery at the local level.

Many local bodies in Nepal have been grappling with a persistent shortage of administrative staff. Local bodies view the deployment of undersecretary-level officials as a short-term measure to bridge the gap and restore basic administrative functions.
