The occasion is set to focus on South Asian art, and features art historian Dr Dina Bangdel and her two PhD students from Virginia Commonwealth University, Samina Iqbal and Owen Duffy, in conversation with Sujan Chitrakar, contemporary artist and director of the Kathmandu University Centre of Art and Design.
Jointly organized by the Kathmandu University Centre of Art and Design and Quixote’s Cove, the second lap of ARTalk is going explore South Asian contemporary art where Dr Bangdel will start the program with a brief talk on contemporary art in South Asia while Samina Iqbal will focus on contemporary art in Pakistan and Owen Duffy will discuss contemporary American art.
The presentation is scheduled to be followed by a discussion on the different artistic trends happening in the region.
Dr Bangdel, an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Art History at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) USA, specializes in South Asian/Himalayan art, and has authored a number of books, including Pilgrimage and Faith: Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam (Serindia Publications, 2011), Against the Current: Life of Lain Bangdel, Painter, Writer, and Art Historian of Nepal (Orchid Press, 2004) and Circle of Bliss: Buddhist Meditational Art (Serindia Publications, 2003).
Samina Iqbal is a visual artist and Owen Duffy specializes in contemporary art. Both are doctoral students at VCU.
