KATHMANDU, March 8: The District Court Kathmandu on Sunday released 12 ‘fake doctors’ who were arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on the charge of presenting dubious credentials to become doctors.
According to CIB officials, the ‘fake doctors’ have paid Rs 30,000 each as bail to the District Court for their release. CIB had filed cases against the ‘fake doctors’ charging them with faking certificates, corruption and faking government documents.
Most of the cases filed were under the Nepal Medical Council Act-2020, SP Dibesh Lohani, the spokesperson of CIB, said.

The ‘doctors’, who were suspended by the Nepal Medical Council, might face up to three years of imprisonment along with the financial penalties if they are convicted of the charge.
The CIB had launched a campaigned named “Operation Quack” and arrested 12 ‘fake doctors’ about three ago and the two were arrested a few days ago.
After several complaints from various walks of life and medical institutions, the CIB, Nepal Medical Council and the Higher Secondary Education Board had jointly intensified “Operation Quack” targeting those with dubious qualifications. Most of those ‘fake doctors’ arrested for submitting fake documents at different stages of their medical education and career, were found to have completed MBBS program from abroad.
The recent bust has raised a serious question on the Nepal’s medical situation; SP Lohani said adding, and its right time for the related stakeholders to join hands in curbing such crimes.
The police also said that they were combing various parts of the country to identify people who have used fake academic certificates to get jobs at hospitals. Those arrested in the past were Ram Babu Giri, Pashupati Chaudhary, Kamarul Haq, Tulasi Kumar Mahato, Mohammad Ahammad Siddiqui, Santosh Kumar Yadav, Kalyan Biswas, Binita Yadav, Bhagwan Kewat Mallah, Shailendra Kumar Mahato, Afajal Hussain and Shyam Babu Sah. Those two arrested in the latest series were Pradip Kumar Gupta of Dhanusha and Sujit Kumar Shrestha of Kathmandu.
