BIRGUNJ, Jan 2: Friday marked the 100th day of the blockade at Nepal-India border in Birgunj attributed to the ongoing sit-in protests by the agitating Madhesi parties. Both the country and the Madhes region incurred a heavy financial loss during the 100-days of obstruction, which the protesters have described as their compulsion.

Even as the news about a breakthrough in the Madhes crisis made rounds, two members--Laxmanlal Karn and Lalbabu Raut Gaddi--of the talks team from the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) were spotted on Friday among other agitators staging sit-in protest at the Birgunj-Raxual border.

Leader Karn said that the biggest achievement of the current protest was the rise in the sense of self-respect among Madhesis.

The country and Madhes both went through great sufferings but that was because the government failed to address the issues of Madhes movement, according to him.
