Vote counting to begin only after secure collection of ballot boxes

Ballots in remote districts including Taplejung, Rasuwa, Dolakha, Bajhang, and Rukum (Eastern) are expected to reach their respective counting centers today, while those from Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Gorkha, Rukum (Western), Manang, Bajura, and Humla are expected to arrive by tomorrow morning.

KATHMANDU, March 5 : The Election Commission (EC) has said that counting of votes will start only after the safe collection of all ballot boxes. Collection is underway in several parts of the country.



In 15 remote districts, ballot boxes will be transported by helicopter. Ballots in remote districts including Taplejung, Rasuwa, Dolakha, Bajhang, and Rukum (Eastern) are expected to reach their respective counting centers today, while those from Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Gorkha, Rukum (Western), Manang, Bajura, and Humla are expected to arrive by tomorrow morning.

According to preliminary data from across the country, around 60 percent of votes have been cast. Some polling centers still have voters inside who entered before the 5 PM deadline, as reported by local election offices, said Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.


Apart from isolated disruptions, voting was largely peaceful, as confirmed by preliminary reports from national and international election observers.
