KATHMANDU, June 15: The Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu has distributed more than 1,750 kilograms of premium Bangladeshi mangoes to Nepali dignitaries, senior government officials and members of the diplomatic community as part of its annual “Season’s Best Compliments” initiative.
The embassy in a press statement said the gesture, popularly known as “Mango Diplomacy,” was intended to promote goodwill and celebrate the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and Nepal.
Mango production in Saptari expected to double this year
More than 360 recipients received the mango packs, including the President of Nepal, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, members of the Council of Ministers, senior government officials, ambassadors and diplomats, business leaders, civil society representatives, and other friends and well-wishers of Bangladesh.
The mangoes were sourced from two orchards in Chapai Nawabganj, a district widely recognized as Bangladesh’s mango capital. The consignment was transported to Nepal through Banglabandha, Fulbari and Kakarbhitta border points to maintain freshness and quality.
This year’s shipment featured the Khirshapat variety, a Geographical Indication (GI)-certified mango that is regarded as one of the most flavorful varieties produced in the Indian subcontinent.
In its statement, the embassy said the initiative reflects the enduring friendship and close people-to-people ties between Bangladesh and Nepal. It added that the annual gesture symbolizes the warmth, goodwill and cultural affinity that continue to strengthen bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries.
