KATHMANDU, Oct 18: CPN-UML chair and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli has accused the current government of taking the country down a regressive path and called for the immediate reinstatement of the House of Representatives (HoR).
Addressing a programme at the party’s central office in Chyasal on Saturday, Oli said the nation must be brought back onto the path of peace, constitutionalism, and democracy. He claimed that Nepal has shifted from a “constitutional and legal regime” to one driven by “passion, provocation, and revenge.”
“The government elected by the sovereign people cannot be dissolved by anyone,” Oli said. “Who gave them the right to dissolve the institution representing the sovereign people—formed through elections conducted in accordance with the constitution?”
Describing the formation of the current government as a “counter-revolution”, Oli alleged that it has reversed the nation’s democratic progress. “This is not a revolution; it is a counter-revolution that has pushed the country backwards—from peace to violence and chaos,” he remarked.
Oli further claimed that an atmosphere of fear and intimidation now prevails across the country, saying “every businessman fears their shop might be looted.”
Calling on party cadres nationwide to prepare for what he termed a “return to peace, constitution, and democracy”, Oli underscored the need to “correct the regression” and restore the dissolved House to uphold the constitutional order.
