“As there is no alternative to the present coalition, we will discuss alternatives for pushing our agendas raised in the four-point agreement,” said a senior UDMF leader on the condition of anonymity.
However, Vice-chairman of Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) Brikheshchandra Lal said that they would ask the Madhesi leadership to clarify the rationale for UDMF staying in the government.
“We will ask them (leadership) whether we can exert pressure for the implementation of the four-point agreement,” said Lal, adding, “And if we can not push our agendas, we must quit the government.”
He opined that they can even support the government by staying out.
A meeting of the Samiti, comprising second rung Madhesi leaders, on December 28 had demanded the leadership to call UDMF meeting within five days expressing dissatisfaction over its performance in the government.
The second rung Madhesi leaders are unhappy with the Madhesi leadership saying that there has been no progress on Inclusion bill, recruitment of Madhesi youths in the NA, withdrawal of cases against Madhesi leaders and cadres, among other issues.
The SC on December 26 had stayed the government´s decision regarding recruitment of Madhesi youths in the NA.
Meanwhile, Madhesi Peoples´ Rights Forum (MPRF) has called a meeting of its central committee (CC) to discuss current political issues.
