KATHMANDU, Feb 2: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has granted amnesty to 267 Nepali citizens on the occasion of its 54th National Day (Eid Al Ittihad).
Following the decision to release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) conveyed its sincere gratitude to the UAE for the generous pardon, describing it as a friendly and humanitarian gesture that reflects goodwill and cordiality in the existing bilateral relations between the two countries. MoFA said the UAE’s decision came in response to repeated requests from the Nepali Embassy in Abu Dhabi, made under the ministry’s instructions.

Speaking about the development, Joint Secretary Lok Bahadur Poudel Chhetri told Republica that the UAE and Nepal share “extremely close relations,” and the government of Nepal highly values such gestures of goodwill. He added that all pardoned Nepali citizens will be able to return home soon, following the due legal process. The Nepali Embassy in Abu Dhabi will provide necessary support, including passport and other documentation, to ensure their smooth repatriation.
“This act of amnesty not only strengthens the ties between Nepal and the UAE but also reflects the UAE’s commitment to humanitarian principles,” the ministry statement said, urging Nepali citizens abroad to cooperate with embassy authorities in completing formalities for return.
