KATHMANDU, Oct 3: The junior boys´ teams of The Excelsior and Odyssey advanced into the quarterfinals of the basketball event during the Second Excelsior Cup on Wednesday. The Excelsior thrashed Gyanodaya 43-14 to top Group C and secure a place in the quarterfinals. Despite the defeat, Gyanodaya also made it to the quarterfinals as the runner-up.
Meanwhile, Odyssey defeated Xavier International 31-20 to book a quarterfinal berth. In the senior boys´ basketball, RIBS breezed past Gyanodaya 66-42, Galaxy beat Swornim 56-36, LRI edged out Daffodil 28-22 and The Excelsior defeated TIA 44-33. [break]
National champ Mulmi marches on
KATHMANDU: National champion Saroj Kumar Mulmi has secured a place in the prequarterfinals of the First London Open Snooker Championship on Wednesday with a 4-2 win over Alok Yonjon. In other matches held at the London Snooker House, Manbhavan, Pravin Shakya defeated Jayaram Balami 4-0, Rajan Gurung beat second seeded Dipjal Dhungana 4-2 and Sanjay Mulmi saw off Birendra Shakya 4-2. Likewise, Lopsang Lama, Nirman Bogati, Rajan Lama and Raju Chaudhary also won their respective matches to secure their places in the prequarterfinals.
