They halted their works from Tuesday afternoon charging police of confiscating goods even after paying duty and handing it over to Revenue Investigation Office, Itahari.
Police on Monday had impounded a truck for importing clothes ‘illegally’. Customs agents have claimed that duty of the consignment was paid.
“We started protest as police seized the goods with an ill-intention to cause troubles,” said Chairman of Association of Biratnagar Customs Agents, Bijendra Paswan.
He further warned of resorting to indefinite strike from Thursday if the demand to release the goods is not addressed.
Officer, Rajendra Dhungana at the customs office said that the office collected only Rs 20 million revenue on Tuesday due to the protest, adding that collection on Wednesday is nil.
