Prabin through to semis

KATHMANDU, Dec 25: Prabin Bir Singh Kansakar stunned the last two editions champion Amrit Thapa Magar on Friday in the men's to reach the final of the Third Civil Bank Open Squash Championship being held in the capital.

Pravin will meet Amrit's father Hira Bahadur Thapa, who overcame Aarhanta Keshar Singh in another semifinal, in the title decider on Saturday. Pravin toiled hard to beat Amrit 12-10 in the last set thriller. Pravin won the first two sets 13-11, 11-8 but Amrit staged a heroic comeback in the next two sets winning them 11-4, 12-10 taking the fate of winners to be decided on final set.In another semifinal, Hira saw off Aarhanta in four sets. Hira won first two sets 13-11 and 11-8, lost the third 5-11, before wrapping up the fourth set 11-8 for the victory.

Meanwhile, Hira's daughter Krishna has fixed women's singles final date with Bhawana Sunwar. Krishna beat Bipana Blon in 3-2 set and Bhawana registered a straight set 3-0 win over Sapana Blon.

In the men's U-17 category, Amir Blon defeated Bijay Magar in straight sets and Deepak Thapa eased past Bikram Magar in similar fashion to fix the title clash.

Similarly, masters above 50 years age category saw Kishor Maharjan and Lal Bahadur Gurung book final positions. Kishor overame Kulesh Thapa and Lal Bahadur saw off Prem Singh. The final will be played on Saturday.
