KATHMANDU, Sept 16: The party president candidates for Nepali Congress have vowed to make the party stronger on Thursday.

Speaking in different programs, acting president Sushil Koirala and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba asked for support to them promising to make NC stronger.[break]

"I am ready to run the party as per the aspirations among low-rung party cadres," Koirala said while speaking at a function organistion organised by Nepal Dalit Association.

Recalling that Congress fielded its prime ministerial candidate for the completion of the peace process and constitution-drafting, he said that consensus among parties is panacea for the present political deadlock.

"The impending General Convention of NC should advocate for Dalit, indigenous/Janajati, women, Madhesi and minority groups and it should respect their sentiments," Koirala said.

At the same programme, NC leader and treasurer hopeful Padma Narayan Chaudhary expressed hope that the party will live up to the expectation of Dalits, women, Madhesi and minority groups in the convention.

Meanwhile, Deuba urged all to assist him in a campaign to make NC the ‘No. 1 party’ of the country.

During a program organised to honor NC Mahasamiti members and convention representatives, he urged party leaders and cadres to vote for him.

"If my campaign for democratic movement gets energy, I will conclude the peace process and make Congress the No. 1 party by promulgating a constitution that nobody could snatch," he claimed.

Expressing dissatisfaction towards efforts aimed at dividing party in the name of party establishment, Deuba said he is the running mate of Girija Prasad Koirala.

On the occasion, NC general secretary hopeful Bimalendra Nidhi also urged party leader to vote for Deuba as "he can take all into confidence and is popular inside and outside the country".

NC treasurer hopeful Chitra Lekha Yadav expressed hope that Deuba´s leadership will gain maximum support.
