KATHMANDU, Jan 13: A total of 164 individuals listed as Proportional Representation (PR) candidates by various political parties have withdrawn their candidacies.
According to the Election Commission (EC), 164 candidates have taken back their names. The EC has instructed the respective parties to submit new names to replace those who withdrew.
According to sources at the EC, 78 candidates from the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party and 21 candidates from the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal have withdrawn. These two parties have already unified, and as a result, candidates originally listed under LSP have withdrawn and been accommodated under the JSP-N list.

Similarly, 20 candidates from the Janamat Party, 12 from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, 6 from Janadesh Party Nepal, 5 from CPN-UML, 4 from the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), and 4 from Rashtra Nirman Dal Nepal have withdrawn their candidacies.
In addition, 2 candidates each from the Unnat Loktantrik Party, Nepal Communist Party, Nepali Congress, and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) have withdrawn. One candidate each has withdrawn from the Gatishil Loktantrik Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party, Nepal Janata Party, Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party, Federal Democratic Party, and the Samyukta Nagarik Party.
The respective parties will submit replacement names for those who withdrew. Including the newly submitted names, the EC will publish the closed list of proportional representation candidates on January 18. Claims and objections may be filed from January 19-24.
The EC will review the complaints from January 25-31, and if any names are to be removed from the list, a notice will be published on February2. The final list of proportional representation candidates will be published on February3.
The election for members of the House of Representatives is scheduled for March 5. Out of the 275-member House, 110 members will be elected through the proportional representation system, while 165 members will be elected through direct elections. Nomination registration for the direct election will take place on January 20.
