KATHMANDU, March 5: Nepali Congress district presidents today demanded amendment to the party statute within the next three months following the conclusion of the ongoing 13th General Convention.

Taking part in the second day of the closed-door session today, they have insisted on reforming the party and amending the statute in line with the new constitution.

At the closed-door session, Terathun NC President, Govinda Dhungana, called for amending the party statute within the next three months in the interest of the party and not only in the interests of the party’s central level.

Sunsari NC President, Rajiv Koirala, slammed the party’s policy and programs as being a mere formality and questioned the contradictory policy that continues to uphold indivisibility of the country in the federal setup.

Meanwhile, Dhading NC President, Ramesh Dhamala, stressed on necessity for a thorough transformation in the party for country’s socio-economic change.

NC’s Chitwan President, Jitnarayan Shrestha, who is the youngest among the NC’s district presidents, reminded of the continuity of the 60-40 division in the party a day after the conclusion of the 12th General Convention, which was touted as the General Convention of unity. He called for ending the nagging division through the ongoing GC.

Likewise, Kaski NC President, Krishna KC, said the party must appropriately address the concerns of the NC leaders and activists who were victimized and killed during the Maoist insurgency through its policy and programs.

Tanahun NC President, Baikuntha Neupane, mentioned the importance of amending the statute for strengthening the party and pressed for a clear policy on higher education.

NC’s Syangja President, Kamal Pangeni, underlined the need for the party to mount necessary initiative for suitable mobilization of the water resources, land, forest and youth so as to create more employment in the country.

NC’s Gulmi President, Bhuvan Shrestha, and Morang President, Dik Bahadur Limbu, said the centre must end its intervention in distribution of active membership in the districts.

The district presidents attending today’s closed-door session vented ire over the minimal participation of the central officials and members on the stage. RSS
