KATHMANDU, Feb 11: Rastriya Janamorcha Chairman Chitra Bahadur KC has urged the government to inform the parliament about the steps being taken to secure the release of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who remains in the captivity of the Palestinian group Hamas.
Speaking at the House of Representatives (HoR) on Tuesday, KC said that while unofficial reports suggest Joshi is alive, the government has yet to provide official confirmation. He questioned the government’s efforts in securing Joshi’s release.
"Fifty thousand people have died in the Israel-Hamas conflict. Following a peace agreement, many detained individuals from various countries have been released. However, the whereabouts of Bipin Joshi from Kanchanpur remain unknown. Shouldn't the government inform the parliament about this? It is said that he is alive, but merely stating that does not fulfill the government’s responsibility. What concrete steps are being taken for his release?" KC asked.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked Israel, resulting in the deaths of 10 Nepali students and injuries to four others. Joshi was taken captive by Hamas and transported to Gaza, with no updates on his condition to date.
