KATHMANDU, Dec 5: The Nepali Congress (NC) named party President Sushil Koirala as its prime ministerial candidate to lead national consensus government. The party´s central working committee unanimously decided to propose Koirala as their PM candidate.
Party senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba proposed Koirala´s name, while Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel seconded the proposal, informed Gopal Man Shrestha, a party leader after the meeting held at NC central office in Sanepa. [break]
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Vice-president Paudel said the unanimous nomination of Koirala as the party´s PM candidate will help clear doubts that there is an internal rift in the party.
Earlier in the day, NC office bearers´ meeting had tipped Koirala as the party´s PM candidate.
On Tuesday evening, the UCPN (Maoist) and CPN-UML had, showing readiness to support an NC bid for premiership, asked the party to name its PM candidate during a three-party meeting held in Baneshwor.
Now only one day is remaining before the extended time-frame set by President Ram Baran Yadav for the parties to recommend a PM candidate to lead consensus government, expires.
