KATHMANDU, March 1: World Cup winning former Italian national team goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is going to visit Nepal this week to attend the final of the KP Oli Cup as the chief guest.
Taking to social media, the organizers and broadcasters of the football tournament have released a 14 second video clip where the football legend has confirmed his plan to visit Nepal and attend the final of the tournament as the chief guest.
In the video, Buffon, widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers of all times, said, “Namaste sabai jana lai (to all), Gigi Buffon here, I’m coming to Nepal in the first week of March as the chief guest of the KP Oli Cup final. See you all there.”
Buffon is considered the greatest goalkeeper of all time by a significant number of football fans. He won the 2006 world cup with Italy and 10 Serie A titles with Juventus. He was the runner-up of Ballon d’Or in 2006 and has been awarded the 13 individual titles of best goalkeeper of Serie A. He has made the highest number of appearances in the Italian national senior team (176) and in the Italian league Serie A (657).
He started his senior career at Parma where he played for six seasons before moving to Italian giants Juventus where he played the longest of 17 years. After playing the 2018-19 season at Paris St Germain, he returned back to Juventus for two more seasons. He then transferred back to his boyhood club Parma where he spent the final two seasons of his playing career.
