Int'l karate in Dhanagadhi

KATHMANDU, Sept 27: Far-western Goju-ryu Karate Do Association is set to hold the 7th Open International Karate Tournament in Dhanagadhi, Kailali from November 19 to 21.

Organizing a press meet in Kathmandu on Sunday, Narad Muni Rana, president of the association, informed that teams from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Bhutan have confirmed their participation.The organizer is expecting nearly 800 players, including 300 players from Nepal, to compete in the three-day tournament that is organized every two years.

"We have been organizing the tournament with the aim of providing platform to local players who get fewer opportunities to show their talents," said Rana, who also informed that the tournament is also being organized with the aim of tourism development in the region.

Rana informed that the expected cost of the tournament is Rs 1.85 million.

Meanwhile, Naya Shakti Nepal, a non-governmental organization working for social cause, has been sponsoring the tournament and will provide Rs 800,000.

"We are associated with the tournament as we wanted to encourage youths," said Kamal Raj Shrestha, a representative from Naya Shakti.
