CHITWAN, Feb 5: The government has transferred Shanti Prasad Luitel, the attorney general (AG) at the District Government Attorney Office (DGAO), Chitwan. Authorities reassigned Luitel for filing a fraud case against Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane in the Sahara Chitwan Multipurpose Cooperative fund misappropriation case, instead of charging him with organized crime.
"My transfer happened due to the Sahara Cooperative case itself," he said. "For now, just understand this much."
Yesterday, the District Court in Chitwan registered a case against 20 individuals, including Lamichhane, on fraud charges, while 12 others faced organized crime charges. Authorities charged Chhabilal Joshi with organized crime but filed only a fraud case against Rabi Lamichhane.
Although police recommended filing both organized crime and fraud charges, the DGAO, Chitwan, charged Lamichhane only with fraud.
"We charged individuals involved in multiple institutions with organized crime," Luitel said. "However, we filed fraud charges against those affiliated with only one institution. Since Rabi was linked to just one institution, we charged him with fraud."
After serving in Chitwan for 15 months, Luitel has been transferred to Kathmandu. He stated that Rabi Neupane from Butwal will replace him.
