CHITWAN, Jan 18: Tulshi Gyawali of Chitwan district prepares compost earthworm manure herself and uses it to grow vegetables in the balcony of her house. She sells this home-made manure to many farmers in the district.

"Though I don't have arable land, I looked for ways to get involved in agriculture," Gyawali said while speaking at the 12th annual general meeting of Federation of Women Entrepreneurs in Chitwan. "But I figured out that there are plenty of opportunities for women in agricultural sector. The only challenge is learning how to make best use of them," she said.

Nila Thakur of Saptari, a founder of the Global Mango and Fruits, a mango pickle company, said that the Gyawali's manure making technique would be very useful for her. "I had no idea that we could use household waste can be used to make fertilizers," she said, adding that they would now try to work off-season too.
