245 km motorable roads expanded

KATHMANDU, July 14: The government has expanded total 245 km of different standard moterable roads bringing the total length of roads to 23,454 km across the country by mid-March this year.



´Economic Survey 2012´ released Saturday states that total 15 km black topped, 45 km gravel and 185 km earthen road were constructed by the Department of Roads (DoR) during the first eight months of the current fiscal year. [break]



With the new expansion, the total length of black topped, gravel and earthen roads touched 9,917 km, 5,715 km and 7,822 km so far respectively.



During the period, the number of vehicles plying across the country increased by 8.6 percent or 101,779 compared to the number recorded at the end of the last fiscal year.



“Vehicles plying per km reached to 55 by mid-March, up from 53 vehicles recorded until the end of last fiscal year,” states the survey.



With the addition of the new vehicles, total number of vehicles registered until mid-March reached to 1.28 million across the country.
