125 hydroelectric projects owe over Rs 245 million

KATHMANDU, April 27: The Department of Electricity Development (DoED) has issued letters to energy producers who missed collecting royalty payments, requesting them to settle the outstanding amounts.


The DoED has issued letters to energy producers who missed collecting the outstanding royalty payments for the previous fiscal year 2023/024.

According to the DoED, 125 companies still owe a total of Rs 245 million. As of the 2023/2024 fiscal year, a total of Rs 244.30 million in royalty payments remains unpaid. The DoED has issued a notice urging promoters to settle the outstanding amounts and support the royalty collection process.


The DoED collects capacity royalty and energy royalty from energy producers. The department collects energy royalty on a monthly basis and capacity royalty annually from the producers.


For hydroelectric projects, the DoED collects royalty at a rate of 2 percent of the full capacity (total capacity) for the first 15 years of production, and 10 percent for the period beyond 15 years.
