2 jolts felt within 1 minute

KATHMANDU, May 27: A fresh aftershock with 4.5 followed by 4.6 in the Richter scale  rattled the Kathmandu Valley with its epicenter in Sindhupalchowk on Wednesday.

The first one struck at 1:15 pm while the second one was recorded at 1:16 pm  today. The tremors were also felt in Sindhupalchowk and Dolakha districts.


Earlier a 4.2-magnitue aftershock was felt in the valley at 12.3 pm with Dolakha epicenter.



Five tremors - 5-magnitude (Rasuwa) at 10:52 pm, 4.3 (Lalitpur/Kavre) at 8 pm, 4.1 (Dolakha) at 6.39 pm, 4:1 (Dolakha) at 5:48 pm and 4.3 (Dolakha) at 2:11 pm - were felt yesterday alone.

Accoring to National Seismological Center, Lainchaur as many as 270 aftershocks above 4-magnitue have been recorded so far following the 7.6 mega earthquake that jolted the country on  April 25.


NSC had also recorded some few tremors less than 4 in the Richter scale in Myagdi district two days ago.


 Over 30,000 jolts above 2 in the Richter scale have been recorded in 30 days since Gorkha earthquake. Howeve, NSC does not post tremors which are less than 4 magnitude following the direction from the Ministry  of Home Affairs.


As many as 8,676 people have lost their lives in the devastating earthquake as of 10:30 am today.
