Today’s social structure is incredibly complex, and our societies are left with many more challenges: judicial, socio-economic, religious and psychological to mention a few. The most important workforces in helping us address these challenges are social workers. They have committed themselves to bringing a positive change in people who face various challenges in their social, economic and psychological spheres of life.

Before and even after Nepal Investment Summit 2019, there have been debates for and against such investment promotion event. Some claimed this is not the right time to organize the event when investment-friendly environment is still elusive in the country. Others went to the extent of saying that it would be a mistake to go for such summit without evaluating the achievement of 2017 summit.

Why Dalits convert

One might argue, quite legitimately, that Manusmriti was written years ago, many things have changed since then and therefore it is pointless to discuss Hindu caste system. I don’t agree with this view because Nepali laws until 1951 and even recently were guided by old Hindu values, norms, customs, royal edicts and rituals.

Reviewing transitional justice

After over four years of official truth commissions, their legacy raises several concerns that demand a serious review. Previous mistakes need to be corrected immediately to avoid a further legitimacy crisis in transitional justice mechanisms. The government did not amend legal flaws in the current transitional justice act in line with Supreme Court verdict, thereby ignoring the calls of victim alliances and civil society. This is one major cause of lack of progress in transitional justice (TJ) process.

About 5, 00,000 students across the country sat for Secondary Education Exam (SEE) this year. After all the hectic days of rigorous reading, revising and practicing, now they have become completely free for at least a couple of months. How people think and behave is largely determined by what they eat and how they eat. We can simply surmise the nature and behavior of people by observing their food behavior. The filthier their trash bins the unhealthier the people. The greater the food waste, more the chances that family is irresponsible. The most successful people are those who are the most responsible about food. Therefore, I believe a close study of kitchen is crucial in unearthing the basic tenets and secrets of any cultures.

Benefits of coloring

Reading the title you must be wondering, ‘coloring is for children, how come you associate it with adults?’ Well coloring is no longer something only for children.  Surprised? Don’t be, I was also shocked to find adult coloring books in the bookstore.  My reaction was similar.  I too considered coloring as children’s pastime, until I found out the popularity of adult coloring books.  So much so that most bookstores around Washington DC had whole section dedicated to adult coloring books.  Turns out, coloring pages are no longer just for children, adults are also using it.  Now the question is why?

Sports for better society

International Day of Sports for Development and Peace which was celebrated on April 6 this year offers an opportunity to reflect and introspect on the potentials of leveraging sports for the good of the society. The other day I was reading news about recent cases of racism across European football fields with more instances of verbal abuses against players just because of the colors of their skin. Sadly and unsurprisingly the targets were not only foreign players but also native players of diverse background, whose parents or grandparents had settled in Europe.

It won’t be surprising to witness Indo-Pacific cooperation and BRI coexist and mutually support one another, rather than lock their horns in a mutually defeating contest
