Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is an effective instrument for promoting sustainable development in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) like Nepal. Realizing this fact, the government of Nepal has organized three investment summits so far. First was in 1992 following the restoration of democracy. The investors attending the summit had pledged investment of approximately $100 million, but only around 25 percent of the pledged amount was realized.

Before and even after Nepal Investment Summit 2019, there have been debates for and against such investment promotion event. Some claimed this is not the right time to organize the event when investment-friendly environment is still elusive in the country. Others went to the extent of saying that it would be a mistake to go for such summit without evaluating the achievement of 2017 summit.

One might argue, quite legitimately, that Manusmriti was written years ago, many things have changed since then and therefore it is pointless to discuss Hindu caste system. I don’t agree with this view because Nepali laws until 1951 and even recently were guided by old Hindu values, norms, customs, royal edicts and rituals.

After over four years of official truth commissions, their legacy raises several concerns that demand a serious review. Previous mistakes need to be corrected immediately to avoid a further legitimacy crisis in transitional justice mechanisms. The government did not amend legal flaws in the current transitional justice act in line with Supreme Court verdict, thereby ignoring the calls of victim alliances and civil society. This is one major cause of lack of progress in transitional justice (TJ) process.

About 5, 00,000 students across the country sat for Secondary Education Exam (SEE) this year. This is the longest vacation they have ever got since they joined school and they want to spend it in the best way possible.

How people think and behave is largely determined by what they eat and how they eat. We can simply surmise the nature and behavior of people by observing their food behavior. The filthier their trash bins the unhealthier the people. The greater the food waste, more the chances that family is irresponsible. The most successful people are those who are the most responsible about food. Therefore, I believe a close study of kitchen is crucial in unearthing the basic tenets and secrets of any cultures.
