KATHMANDU, June 12: The Youth Federation Nepal (YFN), the youth wing of CPN-UML, said Wednesday it would take an initiative to collect money to bail out its jailed central committee (CC) member Parshuram Basnet.

The Special Court Monday sent Basnet to prison after he could not deposit a bail amount of Rs 20 million. Earlier, the Department of Money Laundering Investigation had filed a case against Basnet along with four others, charging him with accumulating properties worth Rs 116.1 million through illegal means. In a press statement issued today on completion of its CC meeting, the YFN has also described the charge leveled against Basnet as being ´vindictive´. In the statement, the YFN has listed out its decisions, including its future programs of protest, taken during its two-day gathering.

The YFN said it will launch a three-month campaign to consolidate its organizational base at the village and municipal level. For that, it will form youth committees, work to ensure maximum youth participation in such committees and provide them trainings, the statement added.

It also said the UML youth wing will collaborate with eight different youth bodies of various political parties, government and non-government youth organizations to chalk out a joint program of protests focusing on the upcoming Constituent Assembly elections.
