The woman from Dokhu VDC-8 of Taplejung district lodged a complaint at District Police Office Taplejung on Monday, accusing Kamal Rai, assistant sub-inspector at Suketar police post, of raping her on Sunday night when she had gone there to file a complaint. [break]According to her, she had reached the police station to register a complaint against her-brother-in-law, Bhupendra Gurung, for sexually assualting her.
The district police office said that police have taken the two alleged rapists under control and started interrogating them. “Likewise, we have taken the victim to a hospital for medical examinations,” informed Inspector Nar Bahadur Kuwar.
They will be able to say whether the woman was raped or not after the medical report is in, said Kuwar.
If the woman´s claim is found to be bogus, she may be charged for attempting character assassination, he said.
In her statement to police, the woman has accused Assistant Sub-inspector Rai of having non-consensual sex with her at around 10:30 pm while she was sleeping,” informed Kuwar, “If Rai had attempted to rape her, the woman should have yelled out or her clothes would have been torn, but no such thing has been reported. So, we cannot say whether the police officer really mistreated her.”
After the woman lodged the complaint against Gurung, both were brought to the police station at Suketar for further investigations.
They have been sheltered at the barracks for police deployed for the security of Suketar Airport. The woman claimed that Kuwar raped her at the barracks.
