Celebrities on the promulgation of the Constitution of Nepal 2015
Republic, secularism in Constitution welcome: Limbuwan movement...
Hari Bansha Acharya, Actor
Constitution for any country is a beautiful asset but such an asset should be treasured vigorously. Today our new constitution was promulgated and I'm happy, but just 90%. I am 10% sad because we could not get some of our Madhesi brothers and sisters on board. If they were satisfied too, we could all be 100% happy. Nonetheless, it's going through its own process and has all my good wishes. I hope the new constitution brings prosperity and happiness and we and our leaders together implement it practically.
This day has come after a long wait, and such a historic day isn't likely to repeat anytime soon in the future. Promulgating the new constitution has taken time, blood, sweat and money. Constitution is an amendable document, and the one that has been promulgated today is the need of the hour. This is the first constitution that has been written by the people for the people, and all our leaders deserve our gratitude. We have waited long enough for this day, and our hope and faith rest on this document. We hope for a brighter future for us and the generations to come following this day. May this constitution also address the demands of every disgruntled party and soon represent a common aspiration for all of us Nepalis. May our constitution be exemplary all over the world. This is a celebratory moment for all of us. Many Nepalis have sacrificed their blood to see this day, and I'm hopeful that the new constitution will be able to address the aspiration of us all. The new constitution has created opportunities for the benefits and equality of everyone, and amendments can definitely be asked for if there's anything missing. Sisters and brothers from all over Nepal should be able to welcome the constitution with equal zeal. This constitution should be able to represent all indigenous groups of Nepal, and most importantly, Nepalis should now get rid of strikes and bandas. The upcoming generations should not suffer at the hands of this constitution.
Manisha Koirala, Actor
As long as Nepal remains a country and doesn't disappear in the next two generations, we should congratulate ourselves.
Mohammad Nazir Hussain, Actor
I'm a member of the US Embassy's Youth Council and we had countless discussions on the constitution. It was also a hot topic for discussion whenever I got together with friends. Today is a historic moment and like everyone else, I'm happy, too. What is happening in Tarai is very worrying and I'm disappointed that the Tarai voices haven't been heard. Birgunj is my hometown and just today one person lost his life while 10 others were injured. The leaders who are leading the Tarai uprising should now take into account what the majority of the common people there want when deciding their next move.
Amar Nyaupane, Writer
It's a historic day for all of us Nepalis, and we'll remember this for a long, long time. While watching the program live on television, I felt very proud when the President promulgated the constitution. This is something that should have happened some 60 years ago, but like they say, better late than never. Yes, there are people who aren't happy with the constitution and they have every right to feel that way. This constitution is just the beginning point of something much bigger, and with necessary amendments, I believe that it will successfully accommodate the sentiments of Nepalis who aren't entirely pleased today.
