KATHMANDU, May 3: United Traders Syndicate (UTS) -- the authorized distributor of Toyota vehicles for Nepal -- is planning to introduce hatchback Etios in the market. Etios was launched in India in December last year.

“The vehicle is very much awaited in the market and we are already getting enquiries about the car and its launch date,” said Sahara KC, sales and marketing manager of UTS. [break]

Etios is an entry level hatchback from the Toyota stable. Though UTS has yet to fix the price of the new car, the vehicle is estimated to cost between Rs 3 million to Rs 3.5 million based on the prices in India. Etios is also available in sedan version.

Toyota with a joint venture with India´s Kirloskar Group invested Rs 51.2 billion to set up its second manufacturing facility in India for Etios production to make it economic and suitable for the Indian sub-continent.

“We have already started the process of introducing the hatchback in the market. Once we get approval from Toyota´s offices in Japan and India, we will make other necessary arrangements for introducing the vehicle here,” said KC.

As the Etios will be cheaper than existing Toyota models in the market, officials of UTS are hopeful that the car will become popular in the market. The hatchback is expected to hit roads by 2011.

UTS is also planning to introduce a new model of Toyota Fortuner in the near future. KC said the upgraded model of Fortuner will have additional features like audio control on steering wheel, side light on side mirror, high mount stop lamp and headlight cleaner.

Apart from new launches, UTS is also preparing to open new showroom of Toyota vehicles in Jawalakhel. It is also in the process of appointing new dealers in Butwal and Narayanghat.
