The prime minister put forth his opinion at a meeting with top NC leaders at the prime minister´s official residence in Baluwatar Sunday morning. [break]
NC Acting President Sushil Koirala, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, the party´s parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudel and Minister for Culture and Parliamentary Affairs Minendra Rijal were present in the meeting.
At the meeting, the NC leaders urged the prime minister to help Poudel, the prime ministerial candidate from NC, in a bid to garner majority support in parliament.
“In reply, the prime minister made it clear that UML was firm on its decision to cast neutral vote as the party´s central committee emphasized on forming national consensus government,” read a statement issued by the prime minister´s office.
Leaders from the two parties agreed that they can´t accept Maoist leadership in the new government unless the Maoists implement the past agreements.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Pashupati Shamsher JB Rana and Chairman of Rastriya Janashakti Party Surya Bahadur Thapa held a meeting with the prime minister at Baluwatar.
In both the meetings, Nepal said the caretaker government should be relieved as early as possible by ending the ongoing political deadlock.
