Party Chairman Jhalanath Khanal is leading the team of central leaders if his health condition permits him. Besides Khanal, party General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel, Sahana Pradhan, Bijay Poudel, Pradip Gyawali, Ghanashyam Bhusal and most of the leader from Lumbini region are leaving for Butwal soon, according to General Secretary Pokharel.
UML top brass held a meeting with Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Bam Dev Gautam early in the morning to discuss the situation in Butwal. “After prime minister personally assured us of strong action against the assailants, we did not have to press on the home minister for stern action,” said Pokharel. “But we are yet to see the PM’s words materialized into action.”
The UML has suspended its ongoing central committee meeting and launched nationwide protest against Thaiba’s murder, blaming Maoist cadres being involved in the killing. Entire Lumbini zone is under tension because of UML cadres protests and local administration has clamped curfew in Butwal.
