UML expels Ang Kaji Sherpa from party

KATHMANDU, June 16: The CPN-UML has expelled its Solukhumbu district committee assistant secretary Ang Kaji Sherpa, also general secreary of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN), from the party on Saturday.

The party´s Standing Committee meeting held in the party headquarters in Balkhu sacked Sherpa, citing his involvement in activities against the party´s ideology and norms and social harmony. [break]

In a press statement, the UML has also said it has scrapped Sherpa´s general membership to the party, saying the ethnic leader supported UCPN (Maoist)´s ´authoritarian principle´ by offering to be a speaker at the Maoist mass meet in the capital, a day earlier.
