Speaking at a party function in the capital on Sunday, Thakur said, “The delineation of constituencies should be done on the basis of population as per Article 63 (3) of the Interim Constitution.” [break]
He added that it was against the constitutional provision to keep the existing constituencies intact even when there has been a big change in the population. He insisted that Madhes should get at least 121 seats out of total 240 constituencies as the country´s more than half population is living in the Tarai.
“We will not disrupt the November election and will only exert pressure to meet our genuine demands," he further said, insisting that only election could give a solution to the current political stalemate.
Thakur clarified that being silence should not be considered it as their weakness. “Our peaceful agitation does not mean that we are not serious towards Madhesi cause,” he said, adding, “Time will come, when we will demand our rights with interest.”
He claimed that the decision of the CDC to reduce the representation of Madhesis by not increasing the election constituencies in proportion to the increase in population in the region is a ploy to further sideline the Madhesi people.
He added that Election Commission should provide at least a month to include remaining voters to register in the electoral roll.
Thakur welcomed Raj Kishore Yadav-led Madhesi People’s Right Forum-Republican leaders Shyam Sundar Chaudhary and Ekwal Ahmed Sah in his party. “I have joined TMDP as its Chairman Thakur is an honest and politically clean leader,” said Sah claiming that TMDP was a single party working for the cause of Madhes.
