Three die, three dozen injured in accidents

ITAHARI (Sunsari), April 13: Two persons died and 13 others were injured in a road accident on the East-West Highway here at Haripur VDC Sunday night.



The deceased are Krishna Bahadur Limbu, 28, of Aangsarang VDC and a woman, whose name and address have yet to be verified.



The accident took place when a bus (Na. 2 Kha. 7724) heading to the east from the west collided with a truck (Na. 2 Kha. 9779) coming from the opposite direction, said the District Police Office, Sunsari.



Those critically injured are being treated at Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar and those with minor injuries have returned home after receiving first aid treatment, said police.



In a similar mishap in Mahottari, as many as 15 people were injured when a passenger bus met with an accident on the East-West Highway at Maisthan VDC-3 on Monday morning.



Of the injured, the condition of 50-year-old Bhagyamani Neupane of Tandi VDC-9, Sindhuli district, is critical, the Area Police Office, Bardibas stated.



The night service bus [Na 3 Kha 7969] carrying some 35 passengers overturned at 5 a.m. today. The bus was heading towards Sindhuli from Kathmandu.



The injured are being treated at the Shuva Swastik Polyclinic at Bardibas. According to the passengers, the accident took place as the driver started dozing off.



Likewise, a girl died and seven others were injured in a road accident in Jhapa district along the East-West Highway Moday morning.



A seven-year old girl of Damak-16, whose name has not been ascertained yet, died while undergoing treatment at Birtamod-based Manmohan Hospital, according to the Area Police Office, Birtamod.



Seven people including Bhuwan Kattel, 38, of Urlabari-3 and Durga Kattel, 31, of Damak-16 were injured in the accident. They are undergoing treatment at the same hospital.



The accident took place at 8:30 am this morning when a bus (Ko 1 Kha 2050) and a Maruti car (Ba 4 Cha 7561) collided with each other at Surunga of Jhapa.
